Teddington, UK — An updated web page at the UK’s National Physical Laboratory (NPL) website presents a brief introduction to the concept of temperature, its measurement and a lot more.
It begins: “The accurate measurement of temperature is vital across a broad spectrum of human activities, including industrial processes (e.g. making steel), manufacturing; monitoring (in food transport and storage), and in health and safety. In fact, in almost every sector, temperature is one of the key parameters to be measured.”
It then goes on to discuss the History, Types of Thermometers, eg.
Liquid-in-Glass, Platinum Resistance, Thermocouples
and Radiaiton (Pyrometers). Next it talks about Temperature Scales and the ITS-90 and the Future of Temperature.
It ends with a unique display of the Spectrum of Temperature downwards (rather unusual) from 200 Million Degrees to -270 Degrees C.
It also offers a 1.42 MB PDF Download of a temperature poster that displays all the content, formulae and figures on this webpage.
