It is a set of presentations that, for many years, have been hosted by SPIE as part of one of their multi-conference symposia (DCS, AeroSense etc) in Orlando, Baltimore and now Anaheim.

Acid Rain modeling 1983. The Acid Deposition Modeling Project begins, co-sponsored by NCAR and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

 

BOULDER, Colo. — The budget process for fiscal year 2018, which begins Oct. 1, is now under way with this morning’s release of President Trump’s proposed budget blueprint.

This proposal will be more fully developed in coming months, with the administration providing more detail and then the plan undergoing revisions during negotiations with Congress.

The administration’s blueprint would increase spending for defense by $54 billion, with corresponding reductions in domestic spending, including scientific research.

Abstract. A new approach to autonomously determine concentrations of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and its carbon stable isotope ratio (?13C–DIC) at high temporal resolution is presented.

What’s Up Mr. Pruit?

AMS Letter to EPA Head Pruitt on Climate Change & Comments

Screen Shot-PruittOnline  —  In a news interview recently, the EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt denied the science that underpins the science of climate change. The video was repeated many times in the USA and overseas.

Mr. Pruitt is a smart person and likely understands the realities of science, so one must wonder what would cause him to make such a statement. Speculation abounds in the news media (It’s politics? Transparency? BS?).

The American Meteorological Society (AMS) took a different view and sent him a letter yesterday (shown below) suggesting that he mischaracterized the science. (The letter is reformatted to be web-friendly, but the words are unchanged.)
