It is more than an exercise in logic, it is, to say it mildly, a hoot.
The one posting correctly entitled “Scientists aren’t stupid, and science deniers are arrogant”
Posted on April 3, 2017 is a wonderful example of both scientific thought and the depths and widths of the rational and irrational views that people are both willing, and in some cases eager, to share online.
There is also a lot of Internet SHOUTING in the large number of comments on this particular article.
That reminds me of the old Chinese adage that the first person in an argument to raise their voice is tacitly admitting the fallacy in their argument. Same thing with “ad hominum” arguments.
FallacyMan says in the early section of this article:
Before I begin, I want to clarify that if you are one of the people who uses these arguments, I do not want you to think that I am attacking or belittling you.
As I have previously written about, I used to be one of you. So, if you feel like I am making fun of you, realize that I am also describing my former self.
To put that another way, I don’t think that you are stupid, but you are misinformed, and you are behaving irrationally.
