Infrared – Condition Monitoring | Camera Brand Loyalty

Featured Tip from The Snell Group

Camera Loyalty to Brand xOnline — Despite the fact that The Snell Group makes it crystal clear in class that we are vendor-neutral, I am often asked for advice about camera brands.

Now naturally I have a brand preference as an individual because as individuals we’re wired that way. We all have favorites for various things. Coke or Pepsi, baseball or football, Lebron James or Michael Jordan–whatever the arena is, we have favorites.

My brand preference, however, is exactly that; mine.

I have my reasons, and they’re likely different than the reasons you might consider important. Somewhere along the training journey though, I might let it slip what my preferences are.

When I do, I make sure to emphasize that it isn’t an endorsement, just my personal preference. (more…)

Using multispectral and hyperspectral imaging in inspection

David Dechow Integro TechnologiesAs customer demands grow and applications expand; machine vision technologies—including cameras and software—must evolve. One such technology in the world of vision is hyperspectral and multispectral imaging components.

In a free webcast on September 12, David Dechow, Principal Vision Systems Architect, Integro Technologies, will discuss the deployment of these technologies in factory automation and inspection.

Checking Thermal Infrared Camera/Pyrometer Calibration

IR Tip of The Week from Infraspection Institute

IR Calibration Tip of the WeekOnline  —  Equipment calibration can have a significant impact on the accuracy of infrared temperature measurement. In this Tip we discuss a simple technique for checking the accuracy of imaging and non-imaging instruments.

Infrared measuring devices must be within calibration in order to accurately measure temperatures.

Traditionally, thermographers periodically send their equipment to the manufacturer for calibration.

For some, this process can take several weeks and can be rather expensive. As an alternative, savvy thermographers can check the calibration of their instrument quickly and easily using some commonly available items.

In order to check infrared device calibration, you will need at least two targets each with a known temperature and emittance. (more…)

New Technologies for Data Acquisition & Control

Online — In the ever-shrinking world of electronic components, finding and fixing hot spots during electronic systems design and testing is becoming increasingly difficult.

In this brief 20-30 minute webinar on September 13, 2018, FLIR staff will discuss how the use of close-up and microscope lenses allow infrared cameras to make accurate temperature measurements on components less than 25 micron in size and even image targets as small as 3.5 microns.

They will also provide side-by-side comparisons of real-world images and data from a variety of different camera and lens combinations.
