The free weather app ClassicWeather fills the supply gap that existed for the iPad. Since Apple has not offered its own weather app for the iPad, the Swiss company Demodit GmbH (BirthdaysPro) made up for it.
The free universal app for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad provides even more features than the classic iPhone app. It surely pays to exchange the weather forecast on the iPhone for the free alternative as well.
ClassicWeather: Taps into more than 29,000 weather stations.
ClassicWeather has access to weather data from Wunderground, or more specifically to 29,000+ weather stations around the world.
The app lets the user determine several locations for which a forecast may be requested. A sideways held iPad displays three cities simultaneously next to each other. With a swipe of the finger a page may be “turned over” to review additional weather reports in other cities.
Relevant to each city ClassicWeather provides the current weather conditions according to the displayed local time, plus a forecast for the next five hours. The app uses small icons, such as a sun, clouds, rain or snow, to indicate in a simplified way what is to be expected.
ClassicWeather is familiar with the probability of precipitation and the times for sunrise and sunset.
A simple tap with the finger changes the display, that incidentally appears on the iPad 3 in retina resolution. ClassicWeather immediately switches to a 6-day forecast. Assessing the weather for the upcoming days makes it much easier to plan outings and other activities. Even a trip may be organized better, knowing what the weather has in store at the vacation spot.
Thomas Burkli, developer of the app: “The iPad does not come with a preinstalled weather app. Many people miss not having a simple app, like the iPhone app. Although there are many weather apps for the iPad, they often times turn out to be too complicated with their numerous functions.
ClassicWeather fills that gap. The app provides all important weather data immediately and at first glance.”
